Intersections of Innovation: Climate and AI in California’s Community Colleges

Dr. Carla Grandy is the Senior Advisor on Climate and Lead Climate Fellow with the California Community College Chancellor’s Office. Carla has 18 years of experience in the California Community College System. Carla began her career as faculty, teaching a range of Earth Science courses from geology and oceanography to climate change and environmental monitoring. Carla served as the coordinator for the Energize Colleges Program at Skyline College, connecting students with paid internships in green economy jobs. As faculty lead and then Director of Guided Pathways, Carla led the campus-wide implementation of Guided Pathways, including the creation of a thematic general education pathway focused on environmental sustainability. As Dean of STEM and Vice President of Instruction, Carla supported faculty and staff to climatize curriculum across disciplines and programs and to connect with community partners and create opportunities for real-world experiences for students. In her current role, Carla supports California Community College Chancellor’s Office Vision 2030 goals to advance community college engagement with the four fields of climate practice: facilities and operations, workforce and economic development, curriculum integration, and community engagement.
